Abstract The oestrogenic potencies of red and subterranean clover extracts, the isoflavone contents of which have previously been determined by chemical means, have been estimated by bioassay, and results from the two different methods are compared. Bioassay studies showed that there is no interaction between biochanin A and genistein or biochanin A and formononetin in their effects on mouse uteri. Pratensein has oestrogenic activity in that it causes an increase in uterine weight in immature ovariectomised mice.
