Sphingolipid fatty acid composition of rat brain “membranous sacs”

Abstract A fraction enriched in “membranous sacs” was isolated from the brains of young rats. Ceramide, glucosylceramide, galactosylceramide, lactosylceramide, sulfatide, sphingomyelin and ganglioside were purified. The fatty acids of the individual compounds were identified after hydrolysis. Certain similarities and dissimilarities were observed.
