The inflammasomes are large multiprotein complexes whose assembly leads to the activation of Caspase-1, which promotes the maturation and release of proinflammatory cytokines interleukin-1β(IL-1β) and IL-18. Meanwhile, the activated Caspase-1 will lead to pyroptosis. The inflammasome plays a pivotal role in innate immune responses toward pathogen-associated molecular patterns(PAMPs) or danger-associated molecular patterns(DAMPs). Dysregulations of inflammasomes have also been linked to a number of autoinflammatory and autoimmune disorders. However, its mechanism of activation and regulation remains to be determined.
