Research on Asarum herb dosage of herbal decoction in Waitai Miyao

By using literature metrological analysis method,this paper conducted numerical analysis over Asarum herb appearing in Record of Waitai Miyao.By assorting the drug according to mentioned times of different dose,the commonly used dosage were 13.8g,27.6g and 41.4g,range of dosage was 6.9~69g.Asarum herb dosage of herbal decoction in Waitai Miyao was obviously greater than the regulations of Chinese Pharmacopoeia.The paper analyzed there were two reasons.The doctors before the Tang Dynasty regarded Asarum herb as non-toxic,and herb dosage of herbal decoction before the Tang Dynasty were generally greater than modern commonly used dosage.The wide range of dosage had relations with the experiences of different doctors.This study provided wide thought for research on prescription dosage of Asarum herb and should be referred to in detail while setting dose criterian for teaching materials known as Chinese Pharmacopeia and Chinese Materia Medica.
