Supercritical fluid dyeing is a newly developed technology, which can make dyeing without water and therby the main source causing water-pollution of the dyeing process can be eliminated. In order to study the technology feasibility and the effects of the operating pressure, temperature and dyeing time on the dye uptake and the dye depth K/S, the experimental apparatus were set up and the experiments of dyeing poly(ethylene terephthalate) fibers with disperse blue 60 in supercritical carbon dioxide were conducted. Through those experiments and the fastness tests of the dyed fibers, the feasibility and advantages of the supercritical fluid dyeing are shown clearly, and the optimal operating conditions found are as following: the operating pressure 28MPa, the temperature 120°C and the dyeing time 80 min.
