Deterioration of bone health, including osteoporosis and increased fracture risk, is an acknowledged side effect of long-term androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in patients with prostate cancer,1-5 and many patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) develop painful bone metastatic disease that is not amenable to chemotherapy.6 The standard treatment for bone metastases related to solid tumors (for example prostate cancer or breast cancer) is the intravenous use of a bisphosphonate.
