L-cysteine adduction occurs at different rates by design in olefinic isoquinolinium diester neuromuscular blockers, yielding corresponding durations of action. Antagonism by exogenous L-cysteine is superior to anticholinesterases, inducing inactivation of the active molecules to restore function rapidly at any time.
