Sedimentation is common to all reservoirs. The majority of the transported sediments gets trapped in the reservoir, and only a small portion flows to the downstream. The worldwide average for the annual loss of storage due to sedimentation has been estimated to be between 0.5% to 1.0%. In order to reduce and remove reservoir sedimentation, different sediment control measures have been developed. This paper attempts to describe the experience in some of the reservoir sedimentation problems and include few case studies.
