This dissertation addresses the adaptive, usage-based calculation of the remaining service life of helicopter components through integrated fiber-optical strain sensors in rotor blades. The sensor system’s applicability is examined through simulations, experimental deformation testing and measurement campaigns in the rotating state. The methodology for adaptive calculation of service life consumption is shown by counting load-cycles with Rainflow analysis in combination with a damage propagation formulation.
