Abstract The enantiomers of α‐pinene, β‐pinene and limonene were directly determined in essential oils used for the preparation of alcoholic beverages and seasonings. The essential oils were analysed by multidimensional gas chromatography using a non‐chiral‐chiral column combination with modified β‐cyclodextrin as the chiral stationary phase, without a previous sample clean up. Such analyses may allow a differentiation of herb, root and seed oils isolated from the same plant species.
