Developing a Parental Mediation Scale for Artificial Intelligence‐supported Technologies for Children

The theoretical foundations of the Parental Mediation Scale for Artificial Intelligence-supported Technologies for Children (PMSAITC) are grounded in Vygotsky's sociocultural development theory, Bandura's social learning theory, Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory, and traditional media mediation theories. The study employed a quantitative survey method and involved two distinct groups: one for Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA; N = 251 ) and another for Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA; N = 300 ), totaling 551 parent participants. The EFA identified five factors—restrictive, co-use, viewing, laissez-faire, and technical mediation—underpinning the scale. The CFA, conducted on a separate sample, confirmed this factor structure based on fit indices. Reliability analysis indicated that all factors were consistent and dependable. Following scale development and statistical validation, the PMSAITC was found to be a valid and reliable instrument. Its structure and findings were compared with those of previous studies and discussed in relation to existing literature.
