Objective To investigate the anti-proliferation effect of curcumin combined with cisplatin on the human lung cancer cell line A549 in vitro. Methods MTT was used to measure inhibitory effects of curcumin and cisplatin on growth of A549 cells. Results Curcumin and cisplatin inhibited the growth of the human lung cancer cell line A549 in a concentration-and time-dependent manner, their IC_(50) were 18.4μmol/L,0.966μg/ml respectively.Compared with either curcumin or cisplatin alone, combining curcumin at 10μmol/L,15μmol/L,20μmol/L with cisplatin at 1μg/ml,2μg/ml respectively increased the growth inhibition rate of A549 cells(P0.05) significantly, suggesting synergistic actions of the two drugs. Conclusion Curcumin could significantly inbibit the growth of A549 cells, which increases the sensitivity of A549 cells to cisplatin.
