Objective To study the morphology of the articular labrum and the effects of it on the biomechanics of the shoulder joint,to enrich references of morphology and its clinical application. Methods Thirty nine samples of shoulder were harvested for this study and locate the samples of trimmed. The width, thickness, depth, the volume of articular fossa and the increasing volume of labrum were measured on eight positions:anterosuperior 0°,45°,90°,135°,180°and posterasuperior0°,45°,90°,135°,180°.The positions and size of labral defects were observe of the articular cavity was measured. Results The labrum was the widest at the point of 180°(5.79±1.80)mm,the narrowest at the point of poster superior 90°(3.68±1.14)mm,the thickness at the point of anterior superior 90(3.61±0.99)mm,the thinnest at the point of 0(3.19±1.63)mm,depth(6.45±0.84)mm,volume(1.96±0.43)mm;the increasing volume of articular fossa(0.85±0.24)mm.Conclusions The articular labrum is an important element of physiological functions of labrum of the shoulder joint, while articular, the defect is a biomechanical cause of shoulder dislocation.
