Influence of Cold Plasma Treatment on Ear Characters and Group Quality of Wheat

Abstract. Cold plasma treatment is a new physical processing technology on crop seeds, the seeds after treatment will show a greater character. In order to ascertain the influence of cold plasma treatment on ear character and group quality of wheat, wheat seeds of Ningmai13, Huaimai22 and Huaimai33 were treated for 15 seconds by a cold plasma seed processing apparatus with the power of 80W, while the environmental medium was set to be air and the absolute pressure was set to be 60Pa. Then the seeds were cultivated in the field after placed for four days under the room temperature. At the harvest, the ear length, number of grain per ear and thousand-grain-weight of different varieties of wheat with different treatments were measured. After the harvest, volume-weight and grain protein content of wheat grains with different treatments were measured respectively according to GB-5498-1985 and GB-5009.5-2010. Results show that the ear length and number of grain per ear of fruiting wheat of Ningmai13, Huaimai22 and Huaimai33 treated by cold plasma are improved observably, the ear length increases by 10.2mm, 6.4mm, 3.2mm respectively, while number of grain per ear increases by 4.0, 3.3, 1.9 respectively. The influence of cold plasma treatment on thousand-grain-weight and grain protein content of fruiting wheat is different with varieties. The thousand-grain-weight and grain protein content of Huaimai22 increase by 0.93g, 1.017% respectively, but the effect on fruiting wheat of Ningmai13 and Huaimai33 is small. The difference of volume-weight of three varieties of fruiting wheat after treatment is indistinctive.
