In the atmosphere, R 2 Co 17 -type SmCo-based magnetic powders (Sm(Co 0.6 Cu 0.08 Fe 0.3 Zr 0.02 ) 8.35 ) a bit different in oxidation process as compared with bulk permanent magnet. This article describes investigation of the oxidation process of Sm(Co 0.6 Cu 0.08 Fe 0.3 Zr 0.02 ) 8.35 magnetic powders at up to 500 °C through thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) technology. The result shows that oxides such as CuO, Co 3 O 4 , and CoFe 2 O 4 are firstly formed at 225 °C and then Sm 2 O 3 at 350 °C. At this point activation energy is 47 kJ/mol.
