摘要
Hydrogen-bonding (H-bonding) is the most relevant type of non-covalent interactions to be found in biopolymers (e.g. DNA, peptides, proteins). Inspired by these natural systems, a broad range of artificial binding sites has been developed to assemble molecules into supramolecular polymers. The various H-bonding arrays are discussed with respect to their binding strength and directionality – two aspects that strongly affect the properties of the resulting supramolecular polymers. These, in turn, have been employed in the context of a number of applications, such as stimuli-responsive, dynamic/reversible or self-healing materials, opto-electronics, polymer science, and nanoscience.
