Bisphosphonate Associated with Osteonecrosis of Jaw

Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) associated with the use of the bisphosphonate began to surface in 2003. The intravenous drugs, Zoledronate and Pamidronate, have been reported with dental complication. However, other drugs in the family of nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates (including oral forms) also may result in dental complication. With emerging concern of potential development of osteonecrosis in patients receiving bisphosphonates, there after they should receive dental examination before intravenous bisphosphonate. However, noevidence suggested that interrupting bisphosphonate therapy will promote the healing process of osteonecrosis.
