An earthquake is a natural calamity responsible for the shaking of the ground due to which both living and nonliving losses occur. It is the responsibility of the structural designer to analyze the structure for earthquake loads and design the structural configuration, which will ensure minimum damage during an event of earthquake. The response spectrum method is one of the most commonly used seismic analysis methods. This method involves the calculation of peak responses such as displacement, velocity, acceleration, and member forces in each mode of vibration using smooth design spectra, which is the average of several earthquake time histories. In this paper, an attempt is made to obtain average response spectra for the northeast India region from the recent time history data of seven sites in the Assam region. The response spectra are generated using Seismo-signal software. A ten-storey RCC building is modeled in SAP 2000, and a comparative study is made for this structure considering average response spectra and response spectra defined in IS 1893 2016.
