A Study on the Early Residences Designed by J. Conder (II) : The Prince KITASHIRAKAWA'S Residence

This paper describes on the progress of the construction, the actions of Conder, the engineers in charge of the Department of Public Workes, the block planning, the planning of the Prince KITASHIRAKAWA, s Residence completed in 1885, and considers on the significance of the Prince ARISUGAWA'S Residence and the Prince KITASHIRAKAWA'S Residence. These Residence was constituted with European style house and Japanese style house. The former was used for Prince and the latter used for the employees. These Residence had long remained the model of the residence of the lmperial Family and the residence of the upper classes in Meiji era.
