Energy-Aware Multi-UAV Networks for On-Demand Task Execution

This paper presents an energy-aware task execution scheme for a network of multiple Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). In this work, we prioritize the forward movement of UAV than the hovering at a constant altitude, as the forward movement with suitable speed of a UAV consumes less amount of energy than a UAV hovers at a constant altitude. This work aims to maximize the total residual energy of UAVs while executing the tasks requested by the users. Primarily, we aim to reduce the consumption of flight time of each UAV for having flight and executing the tasks, which lead to maximize the total residual energy of UAVs. In order to achieve the goal, we propose a scheme as Energy-Aware Multi-UAV Networks for On-Demand Task Execution (EMULATE). Our experimental result shows that the energy consumption in forwarding movement with suitable speed is 67.78% less than the hovering at a constant altitude. Additionally, extensive simulation results show that the proposed scheme performs better than the conventional greedy approach. From the result, we observe that the consumed flight time is 14.28% less in EMULATE than the conventional greedy approach.
