Constructing metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) hollow architectures with structural and compositional complexity and integrating MOFs with other functional materials may result in synergistically enhancing the inherent performance and endow them with novel functionalities. Herein, a MOF-based self-templating strategy was carried out to construct triple-shelled NiCo-layered double hydroxide (LDH)@CoFe-Prussian blue analogue (PBA)@NiCo-LDH hollow cubes, starting with a two-step ion-exchange reaction of Co-based zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) cubes with [Fe(CN)6]3− and Ni2+ ions, followed by the deposition of NiCo-LDH on the surface. Owing to the intrinsic structural advantages, triple-shelled [email protected]@NiCo-LDH hollow cubes exhibited significant adsorption capacity and fast adsorption kinetics of Congo red (CR). The maximum adsorption capacity can reach up to 416 mg/g at 25 °C.
