2,5‐Diazapentalenes

The first 2,5-diazapentalenes, the compounds 1 and 4—derivatives of an anti-aromatic parent compound—have been synthesized. This accomplishment provides renewed support for the concept of stabilization by donor and acceptor groups. The starting materials were the diones 2 and the dithiones 3 derived from them.
