Poor Returns of Hatchery-Reared Lake Trout to the Sport Fishery of Flack Lake, Ontario, 1968-74

Returns of hatchery-reared lake trout (Salvelinus namaycush) to the sport fishery in 9.5-km² Flack Lake in 1968-74 were extremely poor. Of a total of 15,000 yearling lake trout that were marked by fin removal and planted in 1964-66, only 11 (0.22%) were observed during a creel census in 1968-74 and only 45 hatchery-reared lake trout (0.30%) were estimated to have been recovered during the period. Less than 18 kg of trout were harvested from three plantings that weighed a total of 87.1 kg.
