Objective To study whether the phlebitis is related to the size of shallow veins inserted with intravenous catheter system in the patients with chemotherapy. Methods we divided the patients into two groups(group A,group B).The shallow venous indwelling needles were placed in cephalic vein, basilic vein, vena mediana, saphenous vein in group A.but in group B,needles is in the branch vein such as opisthenar and limbs vein. The incidences of phlebitis were compared between tow groups.(Results The) incidences of phlebitis were 25.0% in group A and 70.4% in group B respectively, with the difference being significant(P0.01).Conclusions The incidence of phlebitis is related to the size of the vein inserted with intravenous catheter in the patients with chemotherapy. It may be helpful to choose the more larger diameter shallow vein when we use intravenous catheter system for the patients with chemotherapy.
