EPS (expanded polystyrene), extruded polystyrene, and high impact polystyrene are often mistakenly seen as synonymous with each other. The truth is that the polystyrene most commonly used is EPS because it has exceptionally good thermodynamic insulation properties. This article looks at the physical properties, manufacturing process, environmental impact properties and fire properties of EPS in order to provide a current update on this useful and versatile material.
