Expanding the Toolkit for Management of the Urban Environment

Chapter 5 examines an array of innovative tools, aimed at addressing specific issues in the areas of regulation, community engagement, technical analysis and financial support generated by the new policy environment. A number of these tools aim to provide a higher degree of coherence to the planning and management of urban processes, and are therefore based on spatial and social integration and on community involvement and collaboration. The use of tools generated from different disciplinary fields has proven fertile and has led to innovative proposals.
