<p>Heavy metals have significant environmental impacts on human health and ecosystems. Appropriate remediation measures can be developed based on the source characteristics of heavy metals. So tracking the source of heavy metal pollution has become a prerequisite for assessing its potential pollution pathways and environmental risks. The stable isotope ratio method is currently widely used for tracing heavy metals. This article focuses on the application of Pb, Hg, Cd, Cu, Zn, and Sr stable isotope techniques in environmental heavy metal tracing. The key parameters, data processing and environmental geochemical information extraction methods of heavy metals in soil are also discussed. Finally, based on the current research status and progress, the source identification of heavy metals in soil is prospected.</p>
