In the title structure, C16H13N3, there are two crystallographically independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. In one molecule, the dihedral angle between the two phenyl rings is 49.5 (2)° and in the other it is 54.1 (2)°. In the crystal structure, symmetry-related molecules are linked into dimers via intermolecular N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds. In addition, C—H⋯π interactions help to stabilize the crystal structure.
