A comparison of therapeutic factors in two group treatment modalities: Verbal and art therapy

This study compared therapeutic factors in verbal and art group psychotherapy in a psychiatric day-treatment clinic in Israel. Clients participated in weekly sessions in both group modalities on 2 successive days Results regarding the differences in the perceptions of therapeutic factors supported only partly the differences between modalities, but did reveal significant differences between participants with only few interactions between participants and modalities. Finally, therapists found one therapy more helpful than the other All therapeutic factors appeared in both modalities and in a similar rank order, in congruence with the literature, but additional factors also appeared, suggesting unique factors for art group therapy.
