The sugarcane rind contains fiber material which can be extracted, but the content of lignin and hemicellulose is high,so the selected extraction process should be able to effectively remove lignin and hemicelluloses but not damage the fiber. In this paper, the optimum technology to extract sugarcane rind fibers was obtained by means of the orthogonal test. The results showed that, under different extraction process, the hemicelluloses was almost removed effectively, whereas the lignin was not removed completely;the fiber′s average length was between 0.73 ~1.07 mm,and average diameter was between 16.5 ~ 19.8 μm.Considering the fiber length and FTlR spectra, the optimum extraction technolo-gy was that, the sugarcane rind was treated with 40 mol/L sulfuric acid solution for 1 h at 100 ℃,then treated with 10% Sodium hydroxide solution for 2.5 h at 100 ℃,and finally the fibers were stirred for 1 h.
