An epidemiological study on an outbreak of hand,foot and mouth disease at a kindergarten,Beijing

Objective To investigate and analyze an outbreak of hand,foot and mouth disease(HFMD) at a kindergarten,Beijing to provide scientific evidence for formulating its prevention and control strategies.Methods Field investigation was carried out on an outbreak of HFMD at a kindergarten in Xicheng district of Beijing,and data were described and analyzed with epidemiological methods.Results The outbreak was caused by Coxsackie virus A16 and lasted for seven days.Fourteen cases of HFMD were reported at the Baby Class 2,with an attack rate of 63.6 percent.Conclusion Comprehensive measures should be adopted to prevent and control HFMD at the kindergarten.
