Cascade screening for high lipoprotein(a): the time has come

The figure shows the impact of cascade screening on clinical care. Without cascade screening, only the proband with high Lp(a) receives intensive secondary prevention measures. With cascade screening, 4 additional individuals in the family are identified as having high Lp(a) which may trigger thorough risk assessment, treatment of modifiable risk factors and surveillance for symptoms and signs of ASCVD.
