摘要
The liver acts as the bridge between the digestive system, and the circulatory system of the human body. It filters blood to remove toxins and transfer the nutrients absorbed from foods and medicines. Therefore, the liver was chosen as the organ of interest for this study because of its high vulnerability to the occurrence of tumors. As a powerful computational tool MATLAB was selected for image processing, especially because of the built-in image processing toolbox. Therefore, in this project, an algorithm was developed to perform a detailed and simplified tumor identification in the human liver by generating enhanced output files, and a 3D model. Finally, the developed algorithm was integrated into a graphical user interface to improve its user-friendliness. The goal of this project was to use MATLAB image processing to simplify the tumor identification and treatment planning efforts of medical physicists at the National Cancer Institute of Sri Lanka.
