Some new observations of the morphology of the solid liquid interface during melting are reported and discussed in relation to other published work on this topic. The classification of materials into those solidifying with a faceted interface and those solidifying with a non-faceted interface is well known. It is suggested that the same system of classification is applicable to the morphology of the interface during melting. Apparent anomalies of faceting materials melting with a non-faceted interface are the result of the geometrical conditions of the experiment, and in no way violate this principle.
