Nature of high-speed martensite Fe--Co--W type steels. I. Investigation of nature of strengthening phases

Results of the study of the disperse phase of the high-speed W-Co steels with 0.06 and 0.27 wt% C were reported. It was found that in the tempered steels there are different phases according to nature: in steels with 0.06% C, there is the intermetallide of the Co/sub 7/W/sub 6/ type and in the steel with 0.27% C there is the carbide M/sub 6/C. In the process of aging of both steels, the intermetallic phase iron tungstenide appears. A conclusion is made on the effect of carbon on the phase composition of the steels studied. (trauth)
