Purification of the alkaloids by ultrafiltration using hollow fibre membrane from hydrochloric acid extract of Sophora alopecuroides L was investigated. Ultrafiltration followed by discontinuous diafiltration was carried out to examine the result of purification of alkaloids. Meanwhile, the effects of membrane pore size, operating pressure, pretreatment of the extract and pH value on ultrafiltration performances were also researched. The results showed that the ultrafiltration with discontinuous diafiltration could effectively remove proteins and other impurities. The recovery ratio of alkaloid from the permeate was high.
