In this paper,a high sensitivity electrochemical method to determine pyrogallol directly was reported. A couple of sensitive redox peaks for pyrogallol at the multi-wall nanotubes(MWNT) modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) were observed at the potential of 0.068 V and 0.018 V,respectively. The oxidation peak current for pyrogallol at the MWNT-modified GCE increased significantly compared with that at the bare GCE. The voltammetric behavior of pyrogallol at the MWNT modified GCE was investigated and the experiment parameters such as buffer pH,accumulation time,the amount of MWNT-DHP suspension and scan rate were optimized. The oxidation peak current is proportional to the concentration of pyrogallol over the range from 2.0×10~(-7) to 5.0×10~(-5) mol/L. The detection limit is 5.0×10~(-8) mol/L under the open circuit accumulation for 2 min. The developed method has been applied to determine pyrogallol in real samples with satisfactory results.
