It is significant to propose and theoretically investigate the optimal design of optically gain-clamped(GC) L-band(1570~1610 nm) erbium-doped fiber amplifier(EDFA) to control the EDFA gain to ensure that the gain does not vary dramatically in the presence of input power variations or add/drop of optical channels,in terms of single and multiple-channel schemes by using the two Bragg gratings(FBGs).Compared with the common GC-EDFA configuration, the optimal GC-EDFA configuration can save the gain equalization filter. In addition,we propose a configuration to improve the noise figure of the GC-EDFA.
