摘要
The over-dependence of the energy sector of Morocco on foreign fuel importations like fossil fuels for power generation is one perennial challenge faced by the Moroccan energy sector. This is because high dependence on fossil fuels comes with higher import costs and carbon emissions. As a result, Morocco seeks to find potential renewable energy sources that could be used for power generation in order to reduce the reliance on fossils as means of meeting global renewable energy targets like the Kyoto Protocol. The abundance of renewable energy sources like wind, hydro, solar, and biomass gives Morocco a high potential to accelerate towards a low-carbon-emission country status in the short run when these renewable sources are sustainably utilized for energy generation instead of the use of fossil sources. Therefore, the potential of power generation from agricultural residues is considered in this study because of the abundant amounts of agri-biomasses in Morocco.
