The melting point of thin aluminium films

Investigations were made into the lowering of the melting point in aluminium films with decrease of thickness of the films. Films of thickness 100-1000 Å were prepared by evaporation in vacuo and of thickness 1500 Å by electropolishing from foil. It was found that there was no depression of the melting point due to reduced thickness of films at least down to 100 Å.
