REACTION OF PHOSPHORUS PENTACHLORIDE WITH QUINONES

Abstract Phosphorus pentachloride reacts with 1,4-benzoquinone and 2-chloro-1,4-benzoquinone at room temperature. The basic products are dichlorophosphoranes (1a, b). Intermediates have been ascertained. The scheme of the process has been confirmed by model reactions.
