The community of microorganisms capable of efficient growth on naphthalene as a sole carbon and energy source in the presence of up to 9% sodium chloride has been isolated from the region of salt mining. Microbial association consists of 7 bacterial strains that were preliminary referred to belong to genera Rhodococcus, Deleya, Aquaspirillum, Arthrobacter, and Microbacterium. Two strains of genus Rhodococcus are able to provide naphthalene degradation. The mfluence of medium mineralization on qualitative composition of microbial community has been studied.
