MODAL PARTICLES IN THE YUEYANG DIALECT

Through an overall probe into the Yueyang dialect, this paper draws a conclusion that there are 18 modal particles in it. The author first describes the distribution in this region and the grammatical and pragmatic tones of these modal particles one by one and then gives an exhaustive analyseis of their possible connectivity. Thus he advances his own views on the formation and evolution of modal paricles. In the end the author also makes some valuable attempt to classify modal particles .
