This study was conducted to obtain basic scheme to improve beef productivity in Korean cattle(Han-Woo). The simulated herd was consisted of 3 populations(2 sires and 20 dams per sub-population, 5 sires and 50 dams per sub-population, 8 sires and 80 dams per sub-population) made of 440 heads per population, respectively. Greater changes in gene frequency were observed in the population which consists of less sub-population and more cattle per sub-population than in the sub-population which has more sub-population and less cattle per sub-population, as simulation was continued. The frequency of homozygote increased significantly in the population which consist of greater number of sub-population having smaller heads of cattle, as were 0.594, 0.629 and 0.712 for population 1, 2 and 3, respectively. According to the change in the frequency of homozygote, inbreeding coefficient also increased in smaller size of sub-population as 0.189, 0.258 and 0.423 for population 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Heritabilities in the base population for the body weight at 6 and 12 month of age were 0.364∼0.365 arid 0.453∼0.466, respectively. But those values for the body weight at 6 and 12 month of age were changed to 0.408∼0.462 and 0.383∼0.558, respectively, at the end of simulation. Highest heritability was obtained from the population having greater number of small size sub-population. Correlation between phenotypic value for the body weight at 6 month of age and genotypic value for the body weight at l2 month of age was estimated to 0.60∼0.69, while that for the body weight at 12 month of age and the value for the body weight at l2 month of age was estimated to 0.60∼0.71. Genetic gains per year for the body weight at 6 month of age for population 1, 2 and 3 were estimated to 0.283, 0.352 and 0.335㎏, respectively, and those at 12 month of age were estimated to 0.674, 0.570 and 0.447, respectively.
