Gout and NLRP3 inflammasome biology

This review describes the three broad stages of acute inflammation in the context of gout: initiation, leucocyte mobilisation, and self‐resolution. A typical case of a gout flare is presented. The role of the NLRP3 inflammasome in acute monosodium urate crystal‐induced inflammation is reviewed in detail. Treatment strategies for gout are outlined in the context of the mechanisms of NLRP3 inflammasome‐mediated acute inflammation. image
