Impact of a nutritional education program on quality of life, nutritional status and functionality in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease: Ercanut trial

Rationale: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a complex condition that requires careful management of diet with many restrictions to slow disease progression while maintaining the individual's overall health status. Methods: Randomized clinical trial comparing the effects of a nutritional educational program (NEP; general dietary recommendations in CKD + proposed diets + nutritional coaching workshops; study group) with that of regular clinical practice (general dietary recommendations in CKD; control group) on quality of life (QoL), nutritional status and functionality in adult patients with advanced CKD (glomerular filtration rate <30ml/min/1.73m2). Baseline and 3-month data were collected: QoL (KDQOLTM-36), nutritional status (anthropometry and bioimpedance) and functionality (dynamometry, SPPB).
