Abstract Substance use disorders (SUDs) are among the most common psychiatric conditions in the United States, with over 9% of individuals aged 12 or older meeting the DSM–IV criteria for substance abuse or dependence in the past year (National Survey on Drug Use and Health of 2006, in Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Office of Applied Studies, 2007).
