摘要
The ever-increasing demand for organic compounds has led to their dominance in the environment. As a result, their removal from the environmental samples is important and new strategies are emerging for their removal. One of the strategies is the use of different carbon-containing materials as adsorbents, photocatalysts or electrodes in electrochemical processes for their elimination from the environment. To enhance the performance of these materials for real-world remediation of organic pollutants, heteroatom doping has been adopted. Herein, the use of heteroatom-doped carbon materials for the remediation of organic pollutants is discussed. Specifically, the organic pollutants such as pharmaceuticals, dyes, phenol, bisphenol A, pesticides, parabens and polyaromatic hydrocarbons are focused. Attention was given to these pollutants due to their persistence and toxicities to the living organisms. Finally, the future research directions were suggested.
