Acne vulgaris continues to plague many individuals around the globe. Acne patients still suffer with comedonal and frankly inflammatory lesions, oftentimes on the most visible portions of the skin at the most tender time in psychosocial development. In no small number, these lesions leave behind permanent visible scars and invisible psychosocial disturbances. And yet, the treatment of acne is becoming more difficult. I cannot write about the recent paradigm shifts in the understanding and treatment of acne in 2020 without acknowledging the real challenge of access to affordable, efficacious, and well-tolerated acne therapies.
