Penetration-temperature charts have been developed which offer a convenient means of plotting penetration data for estimating the penetration of bitumens at any temperature within a limited range. A field engineer can conduct the penetration test of the received bitumen samples at ambient temperature and calculate the penetration value at 25 degrees C using the penetration-temperature chart. This helps the field engineers to save time, reduces dependency on R&D laboratories and expedites the field work. The present study deals with the preparation of penetration-temperature chart for six bitumens having different penetration values at 25 degrees C. Penetration tests for the bitumens have been conducted at different temperatures as per ASTM: 5-86/IS: 1203-1978 test procedures. (A)
